I am probably best described as a Libertarian in mindset. I believe in individual responsibility which equates to social liberal and fiscal conservative. This means, do what you want as long as it doesn’t hurt others, and pay for your decisions yourself! I also believe in a true safety net for the truly NEEDY. Needy to me means very limited abilities due to true mental incapacity or physical disabilities, not because you were too lazy to get an edumication and now are complaining that you can’t make a living wage flipping burgers at McDonalds! McDonalds jobs are for 16 year olds needing some job experience, not 30 year olds who finally figured out living on mom’s couch isn’t really living. If someone finds themselves in trouble due to emergencies that happen, then I can see helping them for six months max. This idea that we are going to pay for people to stay unemployed because they don’t like the available jobs is not reality.
I guarantee you that the person who has not worked for 2 years and is getting benefits, food stamps, housing and other aid would find a job pretty quickly or 2 part time jobs pretty quickly if they suddenly found out they have two months then the financial help stops. We have an issue now because the economy is in the crapper, but if government would get out of the way business would grow. Stop all … ALL corporate welfare. Stop the outsourcing of work, and encourage opening factories here in America. Lower our Corporate tax rates so it’s attractive to do business here and more attractive to pay taxes here than some other country.
America used to be on the right track, but it’s gone askew in so many ways. Unions rose up in response to heavy handed management. Then, the Unions made it too expensive to run a business (Unless you are the government) so the businesses bribed or lobbied congress to enact those stupid GATT and NAFTA treaties. We have lost millions of manufacturing jobs and have you noticed the promised lower costs for food and other things? So, while I find it stupid to discuss going off of a 10,000 foot cliff at 500 miles per hour or 200 miles per hour in an out of control train, I would still rather put on the brakes and try to slow down. Obama is the 500 mph train and Romney is the 200 mph train. I trust neither of them, but a 2nd term for Obama would be no holds barred pedal to the metal warp speed into the destruction he intends to take us.
